AI Background Remover
Drop in a photo and get the subject cut out — people, products, pets, cars — ready as a transparent PNG or placed on a colour of your choice. It runs on your own device; the image is never uploaded.
PNG, JPG, WEBP or AVIF. You can also paste from the clipboard.
How the background remover works
The model is BiRefNet Lite, a segmentation network built for separating a subject from its background at high resolution. Your photo is resized to 1024 × 1024 for the network, which returns a map of how strongly each pixel belongs to the subject. That map is scaled back to your photo’s own size and becomes its transparency, so the cut-out keeps every original pixel of the subject rather than a re-drawn copy.
Switching between transparent, white, black or a custom colour is instant — the mask is kept, so the model does not run again.
Getting the best result
- A clear subject works best — one person, product or object that stands apart from what is behind it.
- Fine hair and fur come out well against plain backgrounds, and softer against busy ones.
- Glass, smoke and shadows are partly transparent in reality; expect the model to treat them as either in or out.
Speed
- With a GPU (WebGPU) — current Chrome and Edge on most computers — a photo takes a few seconds.
- The first run downloads the model, about 115 MB. Your browser caches it, so later photos start straight away.
- Without a GPU the model runs on the CPU where the site provides a version for it, and takes a minute or more per photo.
Privacy
The image is decoded and processed inside your browser and never uploaded. The page makes two downloads the first time you use it — the model file from this site, and ONNX Runtime, the engine that runs it, from the jsDelivr CDN. Neither is sent anything about your image. See the privacy page.
